What does Day 1 with TenMarks Writing look like in a classroom?
Check out how one student introduces her peers to TenMarks Writing in this video; consider watching it as a class and discussing key points.
To make the most of TenMarks Writing, begin by building students’ enthusiasm and confidence. Start off with Bursts, the short, engaging writing exercises that make every student feel successful as a writer. Download a one-page guide to introduce Bursts to your students.
Next, give your class an Overview Assignment. You may choose a language or writing assignment, depending on the needs of your students. By using an overview assignment, students will gain familiarity with the types of practice questions they’ll encounter. You can also use their results as formative assessment to determine what other practice assignments to give them. Learn more about Assignments here.
Lastly, briefly introduce students to the genre of writing they’ll be studying first, Opinion/Argumentative, Informational, or Response to Literature. TenMarks Writing Teacher Resources provide a recommended sequence of lessons in the resources guide for each genre.
You may choose to assign a writing project on the first day and show students where they can go on their dashboard to navigate to Writing Coach, the online tool that supports students through every step of the writing process.
